Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Billie Piper are to star in a new drama for Sky Atlantic called Penny Dreadful, which is being co-produced by Sam Mendes’ Neal Street Productions.
The series, described as a “psychological thriller”, is penned by playwright and screenwriter John Logan. It will be broadcast on Sky Atlantic in the UK and on Showtime in the US.
Sky Atlantic said Penny Dreadful will feature “some of literature’s most famously terrifying characters”, including Doctor Frankenstein and Dorian Gray.
“The series weaves together these classic horror origin stories as the characters grapple with their monstrous alienation,” the broadcaster said.
The cast also includes Rory Kinnear, Harry Treadaway, Reeve Carney and Timothy Dalton.
Penny Dreadful marks Logan and Mendes’ second major collaboration following Skyfall.
Logan, who wrote the play Red, said: “I’m thrilled to be bringing Penny Dreadful to life here in the UK, where the show is set and was conceived over many years of wandering the streets of London. I think the talent we are bringing together for the show promises to create something memorable.”
The series is a co-production between Neal Street and Desert Wolf Productions.
Logan and Mendes are executive producers on the series, alongside Neal Street’s Pippa Harris.
