J K Rowling’s book The Casual Vacancy is to be adapted into a television drama for BBC1.
In a statement, the BBC said Rowling will collaborate on the drama, and that the number of episodes will be decided once the “creative adaptation process has formally begun”.
The Casual Vacancy was ordered by BBC controller of drama commissioning, Ben Stephenson, and Danny Cohen, controller of BBC1.
Rowling said: “I’m thrilled the BBC has commissioned The Casual Vacancy. I always felt that, if it were to be adapted, this novel was best suited to television and I think the BBC is the perfect home.”
It is expected to be broadcast in 2014.
