Special episodes of Miranda, The Royle Family and Call the Midwife will form part of the BBC’s Christmas line-up.
Other productions that will be broadcast over the festive period include Restless, which is an adaptation of William Boyd’s book, and Loving Miss Hatto, written by Victoria Wood.
BBC Vision controller Roger Mosey described the Corporation’s Christmas schedule as “the most exciting yet”.
Loving Miss Hatto, to be broadcast on BBC1, tells the story of pianist Joyce Hatto, while spy drama Restless stars Hayley Atwell, Michael Gambon and Rufus Sewell. It is directed by Edward Hall.
Other programmes on BBC1 include a special edition of Top of the Pops and Mr Stink, starring Hugh Bonneville and Sheridan Smith. This is a 60-minute drama adapted from David Walliams’ book of the same name.
Meanwhile, BBC2’s programmes include drama The Girl, by Gwyneth Hughes, which is about Alfred Hitchcock and his relationship with Tippi Hedren.
It stars Toby Jones, Sienna Miller and Imelda Staunton.
