Douglas Hodge will play Willy Wonka in the new musical version of Roald Dahl’s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory next year.
Hodge won an Olivier for his performance in La Cage aux Folles in 2009 and is currently on Broadway in a production of Cyrano de Bergerac.
He will play Willy Wonka when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory opens at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane in May next year.
It has music by Marc Shaiman, who has also penned the show’s lyrics with Scott Wittman. The pair previously collaborated on Hairspray.
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory will be directed by Sam Mendes and is produced by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, Neal Street Productions and Kevin McCormick.
