ATG buys Savoy Theatre

Ambassador Theatre Group, in partnership with the Tulbart Group, has purchased the Savoy Theatre in London from its current owners West One.

The acquisition of the 1,200-seat venue, which is located just off the Strand, will also see the management of the theatre transfer to ATG from Stephen Waley-Cohen, who has been in charge of the Savoy for the past eight years.

ATG executive director Rosemary Squire commented: “We are delighted to take over this beautiful and historic building and are thrilled to add a larger venue to complement our other West End theatres. We continue to enjoy fantastic success with Guys and Dolls at the Piccadilly, a similar size venue, and we look forward to producing more musicals in the future from our larger theatres such as the Savoy.”

ATG now owns and runs ten theatres in the West End, having recently returned the Albery and Wyndham’s theatres to Cameron Mackintosh at the completion of its leaseholds on the venues. It is currently the second largest theatre owning and operating group in the UK.

The Tulbart Group is Ted and Norman Tulchin and Robert Bartner. As producers they have presented The Postman Always Rings Twice, Guys and Dolls and Sweeney Todd, among others, in the West End. Ted and Norman Tulchin are also co-owners of the Playhouse Theatre with ATG.
