Burleigh Academy announces countryman Rhys Ifans as patron

Published Thursday 22 September 2005 at 13:25 by Alistair Smith

Notting Hill star Rhys Ifans has been announced as patron to the Burleigh Academy of Performing Arts in Newport, South Wales.

Ifans commented: “As a performer, I like to encourage up and coming talent. I was thrilled to become a patron of The Burleigh. As a Welshman and a former pupil of the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, I feel I can offer young performers motivation. Wales may be a little country by comparison but it has great talent along with its big heart.”

The school has also launched a new award in the actor’s name, which was won this year by senior musical theatre pupil Kelly Lewis.
