Kids Week sells 5,000 theatre tickets in hours

Annual West End event Kids Week, aimed at enticing children to the theatre, received a record number of bookings this year, selling more than 5,000 tickets within two and a half hours of the booking lines opening.

Its recent launch was supported by the child stars of Billy Elliot and Mary Poppins, James Lomas, Jonny Weldon, George Maguire, Poppy Lee Friar and Liam Mower.

Ruthie Henshall, who is currently staring in The Woman in White, also attended the launch with her two daughters. She said: “I think Kids Week is a fantastic thing, because it gets children into the theatre early, when they might not be able to afford it normally. When I was young I saw Cats and Chicago and pantomime and I loved it. There is nothing more magical for children than to see a story being danced and sung and acted out on stage.”

Kids week runs from August 19 to September 2. For further information see www.kidsweek.co.uk or call 0870 400 0800.
