West Wing star Rob Lowe has brought his family with him from America while he stars in Bill Kenwright’s production of A Few Good Men at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, and said he is happy to be in the capital despite the recent terror attacks.
Speaking at the launch of Aaron Sorkin’s play, upon which his film adaptation was based, Lowe said having experienced the anxiety that followed the attacks on the World Trade Center in 2001, he was even more keen to come to Britain.
“I am happy to be in London. Happy to be representing the US here. I’ve brought my family over, my kids are going to school here. We love you and adore you,” he said. “People have said ‘you are taking your family and kids?’ but we all live our lives the way we want.”
He was joined on stage at the Theatre Royal by co-stars Coronation Street actress Suranne Jones, John Barrowman, who has been most recently seen in Doctor Who, and Jack Ellis who recently left Bad Girls, as well as director David Esbjornson and writer Sorkin. The playwright said Lowe had approached him during the first readthrough of The West Wing, which Sorkin authored, to tell him of his interest in reviving A Few Good Men, which was written in 1989.
Lowe added: “We had another conversation about Christmas time and a couple of weeks later it seems we are having this press conference.”
A Few Good Men opens at the Theatre Royal Haymarket on August 18 and runs to December 17.
