All the Love I Have was originally created for West End football musical The Beautiful Game. Elton has written new lyrics and Lloyd Webber has reorchestrated the number.
Dee, who appeared in Cats and won an Olivier for Best Actress for Carousel in 1993, said: “It’s just so beautiful, I literally swooned when he played it for me this week. To have Andrew play for me on my opening night is going to make it an unforgettable experience.”
The Shaw season, which runs until May 8, is Dee’s first since the birth of her second child. She last appeared in cabaret in a sell-out season at Pizza on the Park in 2004 and at the Divas at the Donmar season in 2002. Other West End appearances include Gershwin musical My One and Only, and Comic Potential, which she went on to perform on Broadway.
• Patti Smith has announced the line-up for her Meltdown Festival at the South Bank Centre, between June 11-26. Among those appearing are fellow members of the New York rock scene, Television and Velvet Underground member John Cale. Beth Orton, Sinead O’Connor and Kristin Hersh take part in a celebration of poet William Blake that also features Smith. The host will additionally be performing her ground-breaking album Horses accompanied by its producer Cale. Other guests during the festival include Billy Bragg, Yoko Ono, Steve Earle, Jeff Beck and Antony Hegarty.
