Avalon Television has been commissioned by ITV to make a new quiz show series fronted by comedian Al Murray.

Fact Hunt is based on a traditional pub quiz contest and will involve existing teams representing their local bars battling it out for prizes. The seven half-hour shows are hosted by Murray in the guise of his award-winning alter-ego The Pub Landlord and will also feature celebrity guests. The series, follows on from the recent success of An Audience With Al Murray and his performance on Gordon Ramsay’s reality programme Hell’s Kitchen.

Meanwhile, the company has also secured its first commission from BBC3. Billed as the female version of iconic eighties show The Young Ones, May Contain Nuts is a new scripted comedy written by and starring The Sketch Show’s Karen Taylor and comic actress Mirren Delaney.

John Thoday, joint managing director of Avalon Television, said he was pleased to be working with the channel. He added: “It has already proved to be a great breeding ground for new comedy.”
