Reviewer Milton Shulman and former editor Charles Wintour are remembered by the Evening Standard in its London theatre awards.
Now in its 50th year, the ceremony now includes the Milton Shulman Award for Outstanding Newcomer. Standard reviewer Nicholas De Jongh said the award honoured the fact that Shulman had been a member of the judging panel since its inception 50 years ago until the mid-nineties.
Wintour instigated the awards and his name is attached to a new writing bursary of £30,000, half of which has been provided by his daughter Anna Wintour and the other half by Associated Newspapers owner Lord Rothermere. The award ceremony will be held at the Olivier Theatre at the National Theatre on December 13.
