Old school stand-ups are to compete against contemporary comics in a Big Brother-style reality TV programme called Kings of Comedy.
The show, which will air on Channel 4 and E4, features four comedians of each generation sharing a house. The eventual winner will be offered a broadcast deal.
Contestants have not yet been announced but among comedians rumoured to be in the frame are Bullseye’s Jim Bowen, Bernard Manning and Mike Reid.
Kings of Comedy is made by Endemol and will be transmitted on weeknights for a month on E4, starting in October with a live eviction each Saturday.
An E4 spokesman said: “Each night the comedians will perform a show before a live audience, with one comedian acting as the night’s producer. It is up to the producer to decide who will perform what and ensure that the show is funny.”
The comics who get the least laughs will be eliminated by public vote until the King of Comedy is crowned. The programme will start in early October and run for four weeks.
Producers are looking for live studio audiences. Audiences must be willing to travel to Bristol, if interested call 09018 881088 (calls cost 25 pence per minute) or email: audience@endemol.com
