A toolkit has been launched to help outdoor arts companies become more environmentally friendly ahead of the London Olympics, which organisers say will be “the greenest games to date”.
The Environmental Sustainability Toolkit for the Outdoor Arts was launched by members organisation the Independent Street Arts Network this week.
The online resource includes tips, case studies and links to tools that will help organisers run greener events.
The toolkit was written by Julie’s Bicycle with support from Arts Council England.
Several ISAN members are to create cultural events during the Olympics this summer and it is hoped the guide will support the games organisers’ ambition, first mentioned five years ago, for London 2012 to be remembered as “the greenest games to date”.
Julian Rudd, director of ISAN, said: “Outdoor artists are already at the forefront of the debate around climate change through the themes explored in their artistic work. This guide aims to complement these artistic messages by giving producers and artists the practical tools they need to assess, and then reduce, their current carbon footprints as a touring company or festival event.”
The toolkit is available online as a free download from isanuk.org and juliesbicycle.com.
