Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds artistic director to leave

Published Monday 13 February 2012 at 13:35 by Natalie Woolman

Colin Blumenau is to stand down from his post as artistic director of Theatre Royal Bury St Edmunds after 15 years.

He will leave his position at the end of July 2012. Although Blumenau will no longer be part of the theatre’s management team, he will continue to be “closely associated” with the venue. He is to direct a new production of Jane Austen’s Mansfield Park in September and will write and direct the theatre’s pantomime.

Since joining the venue in 1996, Blumenau has overseen major restoration work and created 33 in-house productions. He was awarded the Theatrical Management Association’s manager of the year award in 2009.
