Dennis Hall, chief executive of the Mayflower Theatre in Southampton, is to retire after 26 years in the post.
He will leave the venue on October 31 and the theatre is beginning its search for a new chief executive.
Hall oversaw a £4 million refurbishment of the Mayflower shortly after taking up the chief executive position in 1985 and has since presented touring productions including The Phantom of the Opera and Les Miserables. The Mayflower was also the first provincial theatre to invest in a West End production – Buddy.
He commented: “I have given the matter some considerable thought, and I feel that now is the right time to pass the baton on. I have thoroughly enjoyed the past 26 years and I am exceedingly proud of all that has been achieved during my time at The Mayflower.”
