British playwrights Alice Birch, Alexis Zegerman, Zinnie Harris and Jaki McCarrick are among the ten finalists for this year’s Susan Smith Blackburn Prize.
The writers were chosen from more than 100 entries for the award, which recognises an outstanding new English language play by a woman.
Birch has been nominated by Theatre 503 for her play Many Moons, while Zegerman is up for her work The Steingolds, which was put forward by Playful Productions.
Meanwhile, Harris is up for her play The Wheel, which was submitted by the National Theatre of Scotland, and McCarrick is nominated for her work, Belfast Girls, which was put forward by the King’s Head Theatre in London.
Nancy Harris, from Ireland, is nominated for No Romance. The five remaining nominees are from the US.
The award, which will be presented at a ceremony in London on February 28, is judged by a panel which includes Jonathan Church, artistic director of Chichester Festival Theatre, and actor and writer Imogen Stubbs.
