Edward Hall is to direct a new adaptation of Chariots of Fire written by Mike Bartlett as part of Hampstead Theatre’s spring season.
Hall, the artistic director of the venue, will direct the play about the 1924 Paris Olympics ahead of the games in London this year. Designer Miriam Buether will transform the theatre into a stadium. Bartlett, who is currently writer in residence at the National Theatre, penned Earthquakes in London and Cock.
Chariots of Fire will run from May 9 to June 16 and will feature the Vangelis score with additional live music and arrangements by Jason Carr.
The Hampstead season also includes a co-production with English National Opera, which will see opera performed in the venue for the first time with performances of Wolfgang Rihm’s Jacob Lenz from April 17.
Irish company Druid is to return with three Tom Murphy plays and Propeller will perform Henry V and The Winter’s Tale in July.
