Edinburgh Festival City Theatres Trust has appointed Duncan Hendry as its new chief executive with effect from April 2.
Hendry, who currently holds the same position with Aberdeen Performing Arts, replaces Pat Weller who has held the post on an interim basis since the surprise resignation of John Stalker in June last year. FCTT runs the Festival and King’s theatres on behalf of the city of Edinburgh council.
Duncan Hendry said: “After 12 years in my current role and over 20 years of arts programming in Aberdeen, it was a big decision to leave a job that I love. I am, however, hugely excited at taking on this new challenge and am really looking forward to working with the team in Edinburgh.”
Hendry has been in charge of APA since its creation in 2004 to operate His Majesty’s Theatre and the Music Hall on behalf of the Aberdeen city council. The charity took over the running of the Lemon Tree in 2008, after the venue was dark for a short interval. Between 1988 and 1998 Hendry was director of Aberdeen Alternative Festival.
Hendry takes over as the Edinburgh King’s is closed for refurbishment before reopening for the Edinburgh International Festival in August. Weller will formally step down at the end of January but will continue to work closely with Hendry to during a hand-over period, according to the FCTT.
