Architect announced for new Rambert HQ

Rambert Dance Company has selected architect Allies and Morrison to build its new headquarters on London’s South Bank.

The development will be part of a mixed-use site on the Doon Street car park opposite the National Theatre. The Rambert building will feature rehearsal studios, a physiotherapy and exercise room, office space, a resource centre and the Rambert archive. Also included on the site will be a public swimming pool, an indoor sports centre, 300 flats, and shops.

Chairman of Rambert Dance Company Prudence Skene said: “The new building will enable us to grow both artistically and in terms of our education programme. We were looking for an architect who would reflect our ambitions and offer us a building of which we could be proud. Allies and Morrison fulfils both these criteria and we are absolutely delighted that we can now work together to produce a new and worthy base for Rambert.”

Other architectural practices short-listed for the competition were Burrell Foley Fischer, Lifshutz Davidson and Malcolm Fraser Architects. The approximate cost of the project will be £8 million.

Spokesperson for Allies and Morrison Bob Allies said: “It will be fascinating to play a part in the making of a new home for Rambert and particularly good to have an opportunity of contributing further to the revitalisation and rebuilding of the South Bank.”
