Jack Whitehall to pen own sitcom as part of BBC3 comedy push

Published Thursday 1 December 2011 at 12:41 by Matthew Hemley

Jack Whitehall is to write and star in his own comedy for BBC3.

Bad Education is a six-part series in which Whitehall will play a teacher described as “the worst teacher ever to grace the British education system”.

Meanwhile, BBC3 controller Zai Bennett has also announced new comedies called Some Girls, written by Bernadette Davis, and The Revolution Will Be Televised, by Heydon Prowse and Jolyon Rubinstein.

Bennett said: “BBC3 is the channel that breaks new comedy in the UK. We are delighted that Bad Education, Some Girls and The Revolution Will Be Televised are joining our already exciting stable of comedy.”

In addition, Bennett has revealed a new initiative called The Comedy Kitchen, through which six comedy pilots will be made available to view online. These include People Just Do Nothing, produced by Rough Cut, and Dawson Brothers Presents, which is being made by the BBC.

A third series of the comedy Him and Her has also been announced.
