Ice Age to become latest animated film to hit stage

Published Thursday 1 December 2011 at 10:37 by Alistair Smith

Ice Age is being turned into a live arena show by Twentieth Century Fox and Stage Entertainment.

Ice Age Live! A Mammoth Adventure will premiere at Wembley Arena in November 2012 before embarking on a five-year global tour. The show, which is based on the characters in the 2002 animated film, will mix ice skating, aerial performance, puppetry and film.

It will be directed by Guy Caron, who is best known for his work on the Cirque du Soleil productions Ka and Dralion. Story, music and lyrics will be created by Ella Louise Allaire and Martin Lord Ferguson, while costume design will be headed by Michael Curry.

“This is a big step in the development of our company and perfectly fits our ambition to produce the best arena shows for a worldwide audience, working with the most professional partners. We are very excited about this project,” said Caspar Gerwe, chief executive of Stage Entertainment Touring Productions.

Robert Marick, executive vice president of Fox Consumer Products, added: “Stage Entertainment is raising the bar in terms of licensed live productions and their expertise on the world stage is the perfect fit for this international blockbuster. Its creation furthers our commitment to bringing the very best in live entertainment to fans and we couldn’t think of a better partner to blaze this new frontier with than Stage Entertainment.”

The film franchise of Ice Age has so far taken more than $4 billion. The fourth installment of the film series is due to be released in July next year.
