The National Theatre’s Olivier Award-winning production of War Horse is to embark on a UK tour from the autumn of 2013, The Stage can reveal.
NT executive director Nick Starr revealed that the nationwide tour is one of several new productions of the show being planned across the world. As well as the current Broadway production at the Lincoln Centre, new versions of War Horse are due to open in Canada and Australia, while foreign language productions are also in the pipeline across Europe and in Japan. There are also plans to take the show to South Africa, the home of Handspring Puppet Company, which designed the horses used in the show. Starr said that “in terms of popular and financial success” War Horse was set to be become the biggest show the NT had ever produced.
Full details of the UK tour, including venue dates, have yet to be confirmed. It is understood that the tour is planned to run alongside the ongoing West End production of War Horse at the New London Theatre.
