Backbeat, the stage adaptation of the 1994 film about the birth of the Beatles, will open in the West End on October 10 at the Duke of York’s Theatre.
The play with music, co-written by Stephen Jeffreys and the original film creator Iain Softley, premiered at Glasgow’s Citizen’s Theatre in 2010. David Leveaux directs Backbeat with musical direction by Paul Stacey. Casting has yet to be announced.
Producer Karl Sydow commented: “Next year will mark 50 years since the Beatles released their first single, and I am proud to be bringing their early days to life in the West End.”
