National Theatre Wales has announced details of its autumn/winter 2010 theatre season.
Artistic director John McGrath is to direct Gary Owen’s Love Steals Us From Loneliness, a play which follows a group of Bridgend teenagers as they negotiate adolescence. Love Steals Us From Loneliness is to be performed at Hobo’s Rock Club and Live Music Venue in Bridgend, and features a cast which includes Nia Roberts. The play runs from October 7 to 16 and is a co-production with Sherman Cymru.
The second production in the line up is The Dark Philosophers, a play based on the short stories of Gwyn Thomas. Thomas’ stories have been adapted for this production by Carl Hunter and Told by an Idiot. Directed by Paul Hunter, The Dark Philosophers will run at The Riverfront Theatre in Newport from November 11 to 13 before moving to Wrexham’s Y Stiwt Theatre on the November 18 for three performances.
Completing the season is a site-specific production entitled The Weather Factory, produced in partnership with Fevered Sleep. Directed and designed by David Harradine, this series of installations and performances seeks to recreate the four seasons in one location- a three-storey house in Penygroes, north Wales. Based on local stories about the weather and the unique geography of Wales, the production will run from December 7 to 21.
Launched in March 2010, National Theatre Wales is supported by £3 million pounds of funding over three years from the Welsh Assembly Government and the Arts Council of Wales.
