Miriam Margolyes, Daniel Crossley and Jemima Rooper are to star in the Sheffield Crucible’s production of Me and My Girl, the first musical to open at the venue since its £15.3 million redevelopment.
Margolyes will play the Duchess in the production, which is to be directed by Anna Mackmin. Crossley takes on the lead role of Bill Snibson and Rooper is to play Sally in the musical, which runs from December 2 and until January 29, 2011, with press night on December 8.
Mackmin returns to the Crucible after recently directing a critically acclaimed production of The Real Thing at the Old Vic. Other recent directorial work includes Really Old, Like Forty Five for the National Theatre and Dancing at Lughnasa, again for the Old Vic. Previous credits for Sheffield Theatres include Cloud 9, Iphigenia and The Arbor.
Me and My Girl is to be designed by Peter Mackintosh and choreographed by Stephen Mear. Musical direction will be by Jae Alexander, with orchestrations and dance arrangements by Chris Walker, sound by Simon Baker and lighting by Howard Harrison.
