Disabled-led theatre company Graeae is to perform a preview of its new musical at this year’s Liberty festival, which showcases arts and sport from the deaf and disabled community.
The free event, which takes place in Trafalgar Square on September 4, will include an aerial piece by dance company Candoco and acrobats from Scarabeus.
Cabaret performances from artists including Liz Carr are also in the line-up, as well as a performance installation by performing arts group Extant called Tandemonium, which will combine music theatre and choreographed tandems.
Graeae’s new musical, entitled Reasons to Be Cheerful, features the music of Ian Dury.
Mayor of London Boris Johnson said that the event would “provide a tantalising taste of what’s to come in two years’ time” at the Olympics and Paralympic Games of London 2012.
