Ed Stoppard and Keeley Hawes are to join Eileen Atkins and Jean Marsh in the BBC’s revival of Upstairs Downstairs.

Anne Reid, Claire Foy, Adrian Scarborough and Art Malik have also been announced as part of the drama’s line up.

The three-part drama will be set in 1936 and will be set in Belgravia, London.

The original series, created by Marsh and Atkins, was first broadcast in 1971. The revival has been written by Heidi Thomas, whose credits include Cranford.

Marsh said: “This series has been beautifully cast and I was completely enthralled listening to them bring the scripts to life at the read through. I am very much looking forward to the start of filming and I am very much looking forward to returning to 165 Eaton Place.”

Upstairs Downstairs will begin filming in south Wales next month.
