BAC awarded more than £170,000 towards redevelopment plans

Battersea Arts Centre has been awarded £171,300 from the Heritage Lottery Fund to develop plans for restoring its Old Town Hall home.

The funding allows the venue to draw up full plans for its redevelopment - including improved access, infrastructure and facilities - and it now has up to two years to submit detailed plans and apply for the £2,444,300 it is seeking from the HLF for the whole project.

Artistic directors David Jubb and David Micklem said in a statement: “Support from the HLF is critical in enabling BAC to achieve its ambitions around learning, participation, access and audience development, without which the building will fall further into disrepair, making an uncertain future for Battersea’s former Town Hall.”

The £171,300 from the HLF is known as a first-round pass, which means BAC’s project met HLF’s criteria for funding. Having been awarded a first-round pass, the project now has up to two years to submit fully developed proposals to compete for a firm award.
