Poliakoff to pen drama of the decades

Stephen Poliakoff, the award-winning playwright behind The Lost Prince, has been commissioned to make three feature-length TV films on eighties and nineties Britain.

The dramas, which have not yet been named, were ordered by BBC1 controller Lorraine Heggessey and controller of drama Jane Tranter and will be produced by Talkback Thames.

They will each be written and directed by Poliakoff and linked by one character - a diarist who chronicles events - played by Robert Lindsay.

Other cast members include Damian Lewis, Jodhi May, Bill Nighy and Miranda Richardson. Filming on the first two dramas will start later next month around London, Oxford and Northampton, with broadcast planned for next year.

Poliakoff is also planning a third film as part of the same trilogy, which will be set in 2006. He previously worked with Richardson and Nighy on The Lost Prince for BBC1.
