Gates, currently playing Marius in the touring production of Les Miserables, will be joined by Jacinta Whyte and Shona Lindsay at the concert, which will be broadcast live on May 21 from the Mermaid Theatre in London.

His co-star in the Les Miserables tour, John Owen-Jones, who plays Jean Valjean, will also sing at the event, which is expected to feature an interview with the show’s lyricist, Alain Boublil.

The concert’s producer is Jodie Keane, who said the first half of the live show would feature music from an array of musicals, including Cabaret, Kiss of the Spider Woman, Jesus Christ Superstar and Funny Girl.

As part of this Gates will sing numbers from Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, in which he played the title role in the West End production in 2009.

Keane said the second half of the show would largely be devoted to Les Miserables, with around seven numbers performed from the musical.
