Five publications have been shortlisted for the Theatre Book Prize, awarded annually by the Society for Theatre Research.

They are: The Cambridge Introduction to Theatre Historiography by Thomas Postlewait, Different Drummer: the Life of Kenneth Macmillan by Jann Parry, Opera for Everybody: The Story of English National Opera by Susie Gilbert, The Oxford Handbook of Early Modern Theatre edited by Richard Dutton and The Pantomime Life of Joseph Grimaldi by Andrew Stott.

This year’s award will be presented on April 27 and will be chosen by a judging panel comprising actor and former TV presenter Matthew Kelly, Professor Jane Moody and Stage critic Mark Shenton.

The Theatre Book Prize was first presented in 1997 and is now given annually for a book on British theatre.
