Buffini, Harris and Agbaje lead Tricycle’s Women, Power and Politics season
Twelve plays will have their world premieres at the Tricycle Theatre later this year as part of the London venue’s Women, Power and Politics season.
Plays by Moira Buffini, Zinnie Harris, Joy Wilkinson and Bola Agbaje will run at the Kilburn venue as part of the season, which has been scheduled directly after the upcoming general election, from June 4 to July 17.
Buffini’s play Battle of the Bags speculates on the relationship between the Queen and Margaret Thatcher when the latter was in power, while Wilkinson looks to Margaret Beckett and the birth of New Labour.
The season has been programmed in two parts, one entitled Then, in which the history of women and politics will be explored, and the other entitled Now, which will have a more contemporary slant. The two parts will play the Tricycle on alternate evenings, with performances of both halves on Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Verbatim monologues edited by Gillian Slovo will also form part of the programme, from interviews conducted with a number of high-profile women including Oona King, Jacqui Smith and Edwina Currie.
Women, Power and Politics is produced by Indhu Rubasingham and the Tricycle’s artistic director Nicolas Kent. Casting to be announced.
