Five commissions Glee-inspired reality show

Published Thursday 18 March 2010 at 11:19 by Matthew Hemley

Five is to cash in on the success of Channel 4’s Glee with a new reality series aimed at finding the UK’s best musical performance group.

Called Don’t Stop Believing, which is a song that has already been featured in Glee, the series will see Five scour the UK for first-time musical groups formed by friends, students or families.

The groups will perform popular songs, but with new arrangements.

They will be choreographed, coached and judged by industry experts, and the series will feature five elimination shows culminating in a live final.

Alongside the main competition, the public will also be able to audition to become part of a specially created Don’t Stop Believing super group, which will represent the UK on the Glee Club circuit in the USA.

Auditions for this will be held while Don’t Stop Believing is on air, with new members joining the super group every week.

Five channel controller Richard Woolfe said: “There’s an explosion of musical performance groups being formed in the UK and Don’t Stop Believing will tap into that exciting groundswell. This will be the first series to combine both singing and dancing to create an amazing entertainment spectacle which will completely capture the viewers’ imagination.”
