Two of the costumes purchased by the V&A will go on permanent display in the museum, while the other two will be featured in a forthcoming exhibition of pantomime costumes to be held at the Museum of Childhood.
La Rue’s other costumes, owned by Annie Galbraith, will go on sale at an auction at Brick Lane Music Hall on March 12, where he performed in 2007.
The sale will include pantomime costumes, a collection of costumes worn in the West End show Hello, Dolly! and gowns worn for music hall and cabaret performances.
Viewing is from 10am. The sale starts at midday.
La Rue died at the age of 81 in June last year.
