Mathew Horne, Mark Gatiss and Marc Warren are to star in a drama about singer Boy George for BBC2.
The drama, called Worried About the Boy, is being made by Red Production Company and also stars newcomer Douglas Booth as the pop star.
It is being written by Tony Basgallop and follows George O’Dowd, best known as Boy George, on his journey to become a singer in the eighties.
Horne plays Culture Club drummer Jon Moss, Warren plays nightclub pioneer Steve Strange, and Gatiss plays music impresario Malcolm McLaren.
The show will be broadcast as part of BBC2’s forthcoming eighties season, which also includes the dramas The Royal Wedding, by Abi Morgan, and an adaptation of Martin Amis’ Money.
BBC controller of drama commissioning Ben Stephenson said: “Worried About the Boy will be an evocative and visually enticing drama about one of our most iconic British pop stars.”
Filming on the 90-minute drama starts in Manchester this month.
