CC Skills’ licence renewed by government
Creative and Cultural Skills, the body created to increase the skills base of the arts sector has had its licence renewed for a second five-year period.
Founded in 2004, CCSkills won its first licence in 2005 and currently represents more than 74,000 businesses. The renewal of the licence followed an assessment by the National Audit Office, which praised the organisation’s research strategies and its “effective lobbying”.
CCSkills operates across a broad range of artistic platforms including music and the performing arts, which is estimated to contribute £4 billion to the UK economy.
Welcoming the news, group chief executive Tom Bewick said: “We have introduced a new ambition for skills in this industry, with the first apprenticeships, a new National Skills Academy, and a new way of looking at careers advice and guidance in the form of Creative Choices. We now need to continue to work together to meet these skills needs and ensure that we remain the largest cultural economy in the world”.
