BBC1 sitcom Outnumbered walked away with three prizes at this year’s British Comedy Awards, including Best Sitcom and Best British Comedy of 2009.
The show’s third award went to Ramona Marquez, one of the sitcom’s child stars, who picked up the gong for Best Female Comedy Newcomer, beating Tanya Franks and Rebekah Staton from Pulling.
Other winners from the awards, which were held on Saturday and broadcast on ITV1, include Harry Hill’s TV Burp, which won the award for Best Comedy Entertainment Programme, while Hill himself was named Best Comedy Entertainment Personality.
Best Television Comedy Actor went to Simon Bird, from E4’s The Inbetweeners, who beat Rob Brydon and Robert Webb, while Best Television Comedy Actress went to Katherine Parkinson, from the IT Crowd.
She beat Outnumbered Claire Skinner and Ruth Jones, from Gavin and Stacey, to win the award.
Meanwhile, Pulling won in the comedy drama section, and Michael McIntyre won in the stand-up category.
The sketch show award went to Harry and Paul, and BBC2’s Psychoville was named Best New Television Comedy, beating Alan Carr Chatty Man and Ladies of Letters.
Best Male Comedy Newcomer was taken by Charlie Brooker, for You Have Been Watching, who won the prize over Tyger Drew-Honey and Daniel Roche, who both star in Outnumbered.
Finally, The Ronnie Barker Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award went to Graham Linehan, writer of The IT Crowd, and Terry Wogan was presented with the lifetime achievement award.
