Ruby Television, the independent production company behind BBC1’s Small Island, has struck a first-look development and distribution deal with ITV Studios Global Entertainment.
The agreement will provide distributor ITV Studios Global Entertainment with exclusive international TV distribution rights on all new productions created by Ruby Television.
Announcing the news today, ITV Studios Global Entertainment head of drama Noel Hedges said the partnership would “develop and drive many exciting new projects for the UK and international television markets”.
He added that the first project would be Case Histories, written by Ashley Pharoah and Matthew Graham, and based on the books by Kate Atkinson.
Ruby Television, which also made The Bad Mother’s Handbook, starring Catherine Tate, is run by Alison Owen and Paul Trijbits.
Trijbits said the deal would enable the company to expand its business “in the television space with huge confidence”.
“We are already developing a range of exciting new drama productions for the small screen and by combining our extensive film and television production and financing experience with one of the world’s leading international television distributors, we will create more programming that has both wide UK and international appeal,” he added.
