The show took in $2,086,135 for the week ending November 29, breaking its previous record of $1,839,950 set during the week ending December 30, 2007. The show also had a total attendance of 14,472 for the standard eight-performance week.
Wicked cracked the $2 million mark during the Thanksgiving week, traditionally one of the most popular times of the year for Broadway. In comparison, the musical’s totals for the previous week were $1,430,006 at the box office, with attendance of 13,343.
Opening on Broadway on October 30, 2003 at the Gershwin Theatre, and winning three Tony Awards and seven Drama Desk Awards that season, Wicked currently has productions in New York, San Francisco, London, Tokyo, Stuttgart and Sydney; as well as two North American tours. Based on the novel by Gregory Maguire, Wicked has music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and a book by Winnie Holzman.
