NI’s Derry Playhouse reopens after £4.6m revamp

Published Friday 4 December 2009 at 14:16 by Michael Quinn

The Derry Playhouse has re-opened its doors following a £4.6 million refurbishment.

Located in two conjoined listed buildings and opened in 1992, work on the 200-seat venue has earned it recognition at this year’s recently announced British Urban Regeneration Association Awards. In 2004, it won the Outstanding Achievement in Regional Theatre Award from The Stage.

The refurbishment provides improved facilities that include a dedicated dance studio, extra workshop space, and new front-of-house, catering and educational facilities. With a programming policy delivering local, international and cross-community arts projects, the venue is the leading arts centre in the north west of the region.
