Objective Productions’ Gorman named new Channel 4 entertainment head

Executive producer Justin Gorman, whose credits include ITV1’s The Cube, has been named Channel 4’s new head of entertainment.

He replaces Andrew Newman, who was also responsible for comedy at the broadcaster and who left earlier this year to join Objective Productions.

Channel 4 decided to split Newman’s role on his departure, with commissioning editor Shane Allen announced as Channel 4’s new head of comedy in October.

As the broadcaster’s new head of entertainment, Gorman - who joins Channel 4 from Objective Productions - will report to Channel 4 head Julian Bellamy.

He will take up the role in January, when he will have responsibility for all the broadcaster’s entertainment output across Channel 4 and E4.

Bellamy said: “This is a key moment for entertainment on both Channel 4 and E4. The freeing up of commissioning hours and cash brought about by the decision not to recommission Big Brother means there are a multitude of opportunities in this area. Great entertainment is a key part of Channel 4, and I look forward to working closely with Justin to find the next generation of groundbreaking entertainment shows for the channel.”

Gorman’s other credits include Derren Brown - The Events.
