Andrew Davies, whose television adaptations include Little Dorrit and Bleak House, has been honoured with a lifetime achievement award by the Writer’s Guild of Great Britain,
The prize was presented to Davies at the Writer’s Guild Awards 2009, held last night, which recognise outstanding script writing in the UK.
Other winners include Peter Moffat, who won the best short form TV drama award for BBC1’s Criminal Justice, while Toby Whithouse, who penned BBC3’s Being Human, won the award for Best TV Drama Series.
Coronation Street was crowned best continuing drama on television, and Andy Hamilton and Guy Jenkin, who are behind the BBC’s Outnumbered, won the award for Best TV Comedy.
Playwright Juliet Gilkes Romero was presented the award for Best Theatre Play for At the Gates of Gaza, while the award for Best Theatre Play for Children went to Brendan Murray, who wrote Scarlet Ribbons.
The award for radio comedy went to Richie Webb, David Quantick and Dave Cohen for 15-minute Musicals, while Katie Hims won the prize for Best Radio Drama, for her play The Gunshot Wedding.
Meanwhile, Terry Pratchett was presented the award for Outstanding Contribution to Children’s Writing.
