Screenwriter Helen Blakeman wins Bafta for CBBC drama

Published Monday 30 November 2009 at 16:44 by Matthew Hemley

Writer Helen Blakeman has won a Bafta for her CBBC drama Dustbin Baby.

She was named best writer at the Bafta Children’s Awards, which were held last night in a ceremony at the Hilton Park Lane in London.

However Dustbin Baby lost out in the drama category to Welsh show Rhestr Nadolig Wil, which was shown on S4C, and which also beat The Sarah Jane Adventures.

Other winners at last night’s awards include children’s channel Nick Jr, which beat CBBC and CBeebies to be named Channel of the Year.

Meanwhile, The Legend of Dick and Dom and sketch show Sorry I’ve Got No Head lost in the entertainment category to CBBC show Election, while Coraline was named best film.
