Former Doctor Who producer Collinson joins Coronation Street

Published Thursday 26 November 2009 at 14:45 by Matthew Hemley

Former Doctor Who series producer Phil Collinson is to join ITV Studios as the new producer of Coronation Street.

Collinson, who will take up the post in March, replaces Phil Crowther, who is leaving after two and a half years on the soap.

ITV Studios director John Whiston described Collinson as a “hands-on producer” with a “fine track record in shaping much-loved and treasured programming”.

Collinson stopped working on Doctor Who last year, when the BBC announced he was to take up a post as the head of a new drama division in Manchester.

At the time, Collinson said the opportunity to lead the new division was “irresistible”.

However, speaking about the opportunity to join ITV he said: “I am absolutely thrilled to be joining Corrie. It goes without saying that it’s a tremendous honour to be entrusted with building on Coronation Street’s success and creating the must-see storylines for 2012 and beyond.”
