British actors Julie Walters and Ben Wishaw took top honours at this year’s International Emmy awards, which recognise the best programmes and performances from around the world.

Walters was named best actress for her performance in the BBC drama A Short Stay in Switzerland, while Wishaw was crowned best actor for his role as Ben Coulter in the BBC’s Criminal Justice.
Meanwhile, the BBC’s children’s programme Dustbin Baby won in the Children and Young People category at last night’s ceremony, which was held in New York and presented by Graham Norton.
Channel 4’s The Mona Lisa Curse won in the Arts Programming section, while The Ascent of Money, also shown on Channel 4, won best documentary,
At the awards, David Frost was presented with the 2009 International Emmy Founders Award.
