Producers of the BBC’s forthcoming Over the Rainbow, which will give one performer the chance to play Dorothy in a new West End production of The Wizard of Oz, are inviting females interested in taking part to apply for auditions in January.

Following the success of shows like How Do You Solve a Problem Like Maria (winner, Connie Fisher pictured) the BBC will use the same format to chose a Dorothy for The Wizard of Oz

The new BBC1 series will see one female performer given the chance to follow in the steps of Connie Fisher and Jodie Prenger to land a starring role in a West End show, and will reunite host Graham Norton with Andrew Lloyd Webber.

Auditions will begin in January 2010, and take place in Belfast, Cardiff, Glasgow, Manchester and London.

Interested applicants should visit bbc.co.uk/dorothy for more information. All applicants must be aged 16 or over by June 26 this year.
