Choreographer Arlene Phillips, who was recently announced as one of the government’s Dance Champions, has been appointed as a board member of Sadler’s Wells.
Philips will be responsible for the governance of the theatre as a whole and will act as an ambassador for the organisation. Her appointment will become effective on November 25.
Philips commented: “I’m delighted to be continuing my involvement with Sadler’s Wells by joining their board of directors. The quality of work programmed by the theatre is exceptional, and the range of work presented truly reflects the spectrum of what dance has to offer.
“I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Sadler’s Wells to support their aims at this incredibly exciting time for dance.”
She is one of the judges for the company’s online Global Dance Contest, a four-year worldwide competition launched in March, which will offer the winner a cash prize and the chance to perform on the main stage of the dance house.
Sadler’s Wells artistic director Alistair Spalding added: “I have no doubt that her expertise and enthusiasm will be an invaluable asset to our board, and that she will help us in our mission to bring dance to the widest possible audience.”
