Blackwood joins cast of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof

Comedian Richard Blackwood is to join Adrian Lester, Phylicia Rashad and James Earl Jones in the Broadway transfer of Cat On a Hot Tin Roof at the Novello Theatre later this year.

Blackwood’s stage credits include Roy Williams’ Angel House and the Unexpected Guest, both of which toured nationally, and The Brothers at the Hackney Empire. As well as his own show for Channel 4, Blackwood has appeared in Britannia High, Dani’s House and Little Miss Jocelyn.

Derek Griffiths and Nina Sosanya will also be joining the previously announced cast, which includes Tony Award-winning actress Sanaa Lathan.

Debbie Allen’s all-black production of Tenessee Williams’ Cat On a Hot Tin Roof, which marked her directorial debut, proved to be a major hit during its 20-week run in New York last year.

The show will open in the West End on December 1, with previews from November 21, and is scheduled to run until April 10. It will be produced in London by its Broadway producers Stephen Byrd and Alia Jones.
