Just William back on the BBC

Men Behaving Badly writer Simon Nye is to adapt Richmal Crompton’s Just William books for the BBC, marking the third time the Corporation has adapted the stories.

The new series will be transmitted in 2010 on Sunday afternoons, and is a CBBC production for BBC1. It follows on from two previous Just William series made for the BBC - one in the sixties and another in the nineties.

ITV also adapted the books in the seventies.

Meanwhile, CBBC has also commissioned a comedy called Big Babies, which combines live action, puppetry and CGI.

The 26-part comedy series is about two babies with the heads of grown men which will air next year, with Sharon Horgan, who wrote and starred in Pulling on BBC3, acting as programme consultant.

CBBC Controller Anne Gilchrist said: “These new commissions reflect the originality and diversity of the CBBC schedule and reinforce our commitment to working with the most innovative new and established creative British talent around.”
