Cardiff’s Sherman Cymru theatre wins Arts and Business award

Published Friday 3 July 2009 at 13:52 by Michael Quinn

Clwyd Theatr Cymru in Mold and Cardiff’s Sherman Cymru theatre have been recognised at this year’s Arts and Business Cymru Awards for organisations in Wales.

About to embark on a £5.4 million refurbishment, the Sherman Cymru, South Wales’ only producing house, won the Arts, Business and Young People Award for its Barclays PLC-backed It’s My Shout project. Clwyd Theatr Cymru gained success in the Brand Identity category.

The partnership between the BBC National Orchestra of Wales and the Royal Mail won the Long Term Support Award, with the Millennium Centre picking up the Environment Award.

Legal & General won the Business of the Year Award for its broad-based support of the arts in Wales, including Hijinx Theatre’s spin-off company for people with learning difficulties, Odyssey.

Figures published in April show that investment in the arts by Welsh businesses rose 14.6% last year to £19.3 million.
